Choosing the Right Shapewear
What shapewear is best for lower belly fat?
High-waist shapewear with a wide compression panel above the navel is most effective for lower belly fat. The best options are high-waist shapewear shorts, open-bust bodysuits with targeted tummy panels, or a firm-compression waist trainer. Look for Extra Firm or Firm compression levels, and fabrics such as Powernet, nylon-spandex, or neoprene. Our High-Compression Sculpting Bodysuit and High Waist Shapewear Shorts are specifically engineered for this purpose.
How do I choose the right shapewear size?
Always size by your natural waist and hip measurements rather than your clothing size. Shapewear should feel firm but not restrict breathing. If you are between sizes, size up for all-day comfort or size down for maximum compression. Refer to the size guide on each product page for exact measurements.
What is the difference between a waist trainer and a corset?
A waist trainer uses flexible boning and compression fabric for everyday wear and workouts, gradually shaping the waist over time. A corset uses rigid steel boning and lace-up construction for more dramatic, immediate waist reduction — typically worn for fashion or special occasions. Both are available at Fashion Couture UK. See our Waist Trainers and Steel Boned Corset.
What is the best shapewear for wearing under a dress?
It depends on the dress style: for bodycon dresses, use a seamless high-waist shaper thong or shaping shorts; for backless dresses, use a backless body shaper bra or adhesive push-up bra; for maxi dresses, high-waist shaping shorts provide full coverage without visible lines.
Is shapewear available in plus sizes?
Yes. Fashion Couture UK offers shapewear in sizes XS through 6XL across our range, including our Waist Trimmer Belt, Steel Boned Latex Waist Trainer Corset, and Seamless Open Body Shaping Suit. All products include a detailed size guide.
Wearing & Comfort
Is shapewear safe to wear every day?
Medium-compression seamless shapewear is generally safe for daily wear. Avoid wearing Extra Firm compression garments (such as steel-boned corsets or medical fajas) for more than 8 hours continuously. Always ensure you can breathe comfortably and that circulation is not restricted. Light-to-medium compression styles such as shaper thongs and seamless shorts are designed for all-day comfort.
How tight should shapewear feel?
Shapewear should feel snug and supportive — you should feel compression, but never pain, restricted breathing, or numbness. If you experience any of these, size up or remove the garment. A correctly fitted shapewear garment allows you to take a full, comfortable breath at all times.
Will shapewear show under my clothes?
Our seamless shapewear is designed to be invisible under clothing. For the most invisible finish, choose a colour that matches your skin tone (Nude/Beige) and ensure the garment sits smoothly without rolling at the waist or leg bands.
Postpartum Shapewear
Can I wear shapewear postpartum?
Yes. Postpartum shapewear such as our Postpartum Faja Colombiana and Bamboo Charcoal Waist Trainer Belt provide gentle-to-firm abdominal support after childbirth. We recommend consulting your midwife or GP before wearing firm-compression garments in the first 6 weeks postpartum.
When can I start wearing a faja after a C-section?
Most surgeons recommend waiting until your incision has healed before wearing firm compression — typically 4–6 weeks. Always follow your surgeon's specific guidance. Our Bamboo Charcoal Waist Trainer Belt (Light compression) is often suitable earlier than firm-compression fajas.
Care & Maintenance
How do I wash my shapewear?
Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, or machine wash on a delicate/gentle cycle in a mesh laundry bag. Do not tumble dry — lay flat or hang to dry. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and ironing, as these damage compression fibres.
How long will my shapewear last?
With proper care, high-quality shapewear typically lasts 6–12 months of regular wear. To extend the life of your garment, rotate between two or more pieces, always hand wash where possible, and store flat rather than folded.
